Do you also keep rubbing your eye every time? Rubbing eyes looks like a normal thing and we often do it especially when tired as it is therapeutic and relieve stress as well. However, rubbing eyes too much can have some side effects as well. Check out some reasons why you must stop rubbing your eyes too much:

The most worrying effects are the long term ones. Studies suggest that continuous eye rubbing can cause thinning of the corneal tissue which further weakens the cornea. This condition can lead to distorted vision. Eye rubbing is most dangerous for people who have pre-existing eye conditions.

  • Higher risk of infection

Your hands carry a lot of germs than any other body part. When you rub your eyes, these germs are transferred to the eye and can cause infections like conjunctivitis. Even after washing your hands many times a day, if you rub your eyes you are at higher risk of getting the infection.

  • Dark circles

Too much eye rubbing can cause tinny blood vessels to break which causes bloodshot eyes and dark circles under your eyes.

  • You might scratch your cornea

We know that a piece of eyelash or dust in your eye is irritating. But rubbing the eye can make the situation even worse as you might scratch your cornea. Use water or saline to rub your eye.
