Fitness Lingos and Their Meaning!

Has there been a time when your fitness freak friend is trying to instruct you to do and you don’t know what it means? If you have just started working out, the people around you must be using abbreviations and lingo that you might have not heard before. So here are meanings of various fitness lingos:

This one involves exercises to strengthen the muscle around your waist. Famous core strengthening exercises include crunches and planks.

  • AMRAP

AMRAP is a short form for ‘as many repetitions as possible’. It challenges you to do an exercise as many times as possible.

  • DOMS

DOMS means Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness and refers to the soreness and discomfort in your muscles.

  • HIIT

This one goes for High-Intensity Interval Training. It means when rigorous exercises are performed at maximum intensity.

  • Cross-training

Cross-training means combining different kinds of exercises.

  • Circuit training

This means a single round of particular exercise.

  • EMOM

Every Minute on the Minute gives you a minute to complete the designated number of repetitions you need to do.

  • TRX

TRX is known as Total Resistance Exercises. It can be a fancy suspension exercise.

  • Pilates

They are exercises that help ease your back pain and correct your posture.

  • RPE

It is a short form for the rate of perceived exertion. This is a scale that you can use to tell your trainer what amount of exercise is easy or difficult for you.

  • Cardio

This one is an acronym for cardiovascular exercise. It increases your heart rate and helps you burn the most amount of fat.
