5 yoga poses to relieve headaches
Headache is a common problem and we always look for an instant solution which, ie the medicine. As we all know headaches are stress related and yoga in return releases stress so Yoga could help you get rid of headaches for good. The best thing about yoga is its versatility and there are some specific yoga poses that can help you treat headaches. Check them out below:
• Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog)
This pose is one of the most widely recognized asanas of yoga. In this pose, your head hangs between your shoulders which help in relaxing both the parts. Take deep breathes while doing this asana. Besides headaches, it also helps fight fatigue, stiffness and back pain. The additional blood flow provided through this pose helps in treating headaches.
• Viparita Karani (Legs up the wall)
Rest and relaxation are important to eliminate a headache. This leg up the wall position provides a sense of peace and calmness. It gently stretches your neck muscles and gives relaxation. Place your back on the mat and rise up your legs up the wall and stay in that position. Now put your hands on your stomach and relax.
• Happy baby pose
This pose is helpful if you think that headache is coming from the pain in your back. Happy baby pose will indeed create a sense of peace. You just have to lie on your back with your knees bent, holding on to your thighs. It will release your stress and cure a headache.
It is one of the most basic ways to get rid of the pain. Uttanasana invigorates the nervous system by increasing blood supply and calms the body. All you need to do is to bend forward and relax your head towards the floor. Loosen up your neck and head completely.
• Seated neck release
According to the studies, the neck is the main reason for tension headaches, thus, it is important to stretch it out. And you can do it by doing a basic yoga pose. All you have to do is sit comfortably, place your left hand on right side of your head and gently tilt it. Repeat it to reduce a headache.
