We all are quite aware about the fact that how important it is to take proper sleep but do you know that even dim light at night can affect your health. Thus, it’s better to always sleep in the dark as it is a main key to have to relax the nerves of your brain.
Apart from this, several studies have proved that sleeping in the bright light raises the risk of diabetes, depression, breast and prostate cancer. Not only this, it also results in metabolic diseases.
The major reason why these problems occur is melatonin a ‘sleep’ hormone which allows us to fall asleep is produced between 11 pm and 3 am but it gets interrupted with any kind of natural artificial light.
“Our preliminary findings show that a single night of light exposure during sleep acutely impacts measures of insulin resistance,” said lead author Ivy Cheung Mason, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
Immediately after you switch off the light, the sleep hormone sends a signal to the body that it is time to rest but even a dim light can disturb the entire biological cycle which helps you in taking the nap.
This signal further physically prepares the body by relaxing the muscles, increasing the feeling of drowsiness and by dropping the body temperature. The levels of Melatonin immediately raise high in evening when the sun falls whereas in the early morning it goes down. This is the reason why we are more enthusiastic in the daytime rather than late night.
