Sugar is known to be a dieter’s enemy and any person who is trying to shed off extra kilos is advised to stay away from it. Though it is a common advice but this isn’t necessarily the best one as a teaspoon of sugar contains only 16 calories, which is not much, but the intake increases as sugar is present in many foods and drinks that we eat every day. Junk food, sugary foods, colas, sodas are full of sugar. Sugar is not only present in your cupcakes, cheesecakes, chocolates, etc but is also essentially present in your fruits, bread, pasta, etc.  

Our body utilizes sugar to derive energy for functioning and no matter in which form you consume it, the body breaks it down into monosaccharides. 

Here are some more facts about sugar that you should know:

There is no need to cut out sugar entirely

Unless you have been told to do that for medical reasons, there is no reason for you to cut out sugar from your diet while trying to lose weight. It is present in milk, fruits, and the bread that is a part of your daily diet and won’t pose any threat to your weight loss journey in general. 

Minimally processed sugar is no better than the regular table sugar 

All types of sugars get processed in the same way, though natural sweeteners like honey have more health benefits than your table sugar but making this change won’t make any significant difference 

Sugar isn’t the problem, consuming too much of it is

You will be advised to swap your favorite desserts for sweeter fruits and that is because desserts are calorie-dense and fruits aren’t. There is no difference in the quality of sugar, only in the quantity. You will lose weight as long as you stay in a calorie deficit. 

You can’t get ‘addicted’ to sugar 

Sugar spikes up your insulin and blood sugar level rises that may leave you with a headache but addiction is often confused with craving. 

Here are some of the facts about sugar that you need to know. You can consume sugar while trying to lose weight as long as you are in a calorie deficit. Also, not all sugars are bad for you. The added sugars like table sugar (sucrose) and high-fructose corn syrup should be completely avoided.Eating sugar in natural form is still fine as refined sugar is definitely bad for your overall health.
