Yoga practice is becoming increasingly popular amongst people who want to stay fit both, physically and mentally. Apart from working out in the gym, it is important to keep your body flexible and mind fresh through the hectic days. Yoga can help you achieve that but there are many myths surrounding yoga that should be busted. Here are some that you shouldn’t fall for and the truth behind them. 

Yoga poses are difficult 

Many yoga poses may look tricky in the beginning but you don’t necessarily need to start with them. A good yoga instructor will help you master the basic poses that any beginner can do easily. 

You have to be flexible to practice yoga 

Not all yoga poses require you to be flexible, however, it can improve your flexibility. You are not required to be flexible to begin practice yoga 

Yoga is tied to a religion 

Yoga helps you connect with your spiritual self but does not encourage you to adopt any religion. It is an ancient practice but does not require taking up or giving up any religion. 

Yoga should only be practiced in a yoga studio 

The one factor that should encourage people to take up yoga is that it can be practiced anywhere depending on individual preference. You don’t necessarily have to join a yoga studio but it’s better if you perform exercises in front of an instructor. 

Yoga is only for slim people 

This is a misleading notion and definitely does not hold any truth. Yoga is for anyone who is interested and your age, body type, weight shouldn’t hold you back. 

 

These are some common myths associated with yoga. You can start slow and practice only basic moves if you plan to take up yoga. You can even fix different days and mix it up with different forms of exercises.
