Navratri Recipes: Without Onion and Garlic 

Navratri week is going on and devotees are fasting all over the country to celebrate this festival. During this people, whether they are fasting or not, consume dishes made without onion and garlic. In most of our dishes, we use onion and it is a tough decision to make one without using them. The distinctive taste and flavor of these ingredients add up to the dish but there are some dishes that you can make without using them. These recipes that we suggest are best for preparing during Navratri. 

  • Paneer bhurji 

This recipe is made from crumbled paneer sauteed with tomatoes and spices. You can skip adding onion and garlic to this dish, the taste will remain the same. It is a quick recipe and can be enjoyed with roti or bread. 

    • Malai Kofta 

You don’t need to add onion and garlic in this recipe. These vegetarian koftas are made with khoya in rich gravy. 

    • Rajma recipe 

If you think rajma can not be made without onion and garlic then you have to re-think. This classic dish can be made using tomatoes and lots of spices. 

  • Matar ki sabzi 

Matar or peas can be made using asafoetida, red chilies, chaat masala, mango powder, and coriander leaves among others. These delicious ingredients will add flavor to the dish. 

    • Dum aloo

This recipe doesn’t require onion or garlic. They are made when baby potatoes are simmered (dum cooked) in a spicy curd (yogurt) based gravy or sauce.

  • Bhindi 

There are different ways to make bhindi and you can skip adding onions to it. 

  • Kadhi 

Kadhi is a spiced curd sauce that can be had plain or served with steamed basmati rice or cumin rice. 

  • Shimla Mirch aloo

Shimla Mirch ki sabzi is a savory, tangy, hearty side dish made with sautéed green bell peppers (capsicum) and potatoes.
