Vegetables and fruits may rot quickly if not stored properly so here are some tips that will help you keep your vegetables and fruits last longer at home.

  • Store potatoes, onions, and garlic in a cool and dry place
  • Cold sensitive items like potatoes, onions, and garlic can last a month longer than usual if they are stored properly and away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing them in the refrigerator as well.
  • Use breathable bags
  • Storing fruits and vegetables in bags through which air and moisture can pass helps them last longer.
  • Store ethylene producing fruits separately. Ethylene is a gas naturally released by some fruits like bananas and veggies that ripens the other fruits and vegetables stored with them and even cause them to spoil. Store your ethylene producing stock like apricots apples and cantaloupe in the fridge.
  • Dry your veggies before refrigerating
  • To prevent your veggies from becoming soggy, make sure you air dry them before putting them in the fridge. It also helps preserve the crunch.
  • Use a paper towel to store grapes
  • Grapes usually go bad due to moisture build-up so to make them last longer. Also, pat dry the grapes after washing them.
  • Avoid washing mushrooms ,
  • You can totally skip washing the mushrooms till the time you want to cook them. They last longer when left sealed in their packaging.

Stock up on items that have a longer shelf life and vegetables that don’t go bad easily to avoid going out frequently.
