The number of people affected by coronavirus is increasing everyday. According to medical advisories by the WHO it is important to wash your hands and practice social distancing. Few studies have also suggested that this virus can stay on various surfaces such as clothes for a few hours or maybe a few days. So you should be careful while washing these surfaces which can carry the virus. Though, the transmission of the virus from clothes is very unlikely but its better to be safe than sorry so here are a few tips to follow while doing laundry during the pandemic:

Wash your clothes as soon as possible after your return home from outside. In a lockdown, people can’t go out much but can go to the store to shop for essentials. The surfaces can catch a virus and it is necessary to change your clothes and wash the ones you were wearing immediately after returning home. Put them in a different laundry bag and wash them asap.

  • Use warm water

As per the Centre for Disease Control, it is advised to wash your clothes in the warmest water possible. This ensures proper disinfection of the clothes. Use a good quality detergent as well.

  • Bleach

Bleach is known to be a good disinfecting agent for hard surfaces. But note that you should use bleach that is manufactured for clothes. Add a small amount of bleach when you wash your clothes for protection against the infection.

  • Basic precautions

Other than the above-mentioned things, do not forget to take basic precautions that have been stated for the current pandemic. Make sure the clothes don’t touch any other surface of the house before you wash them. Wash your hands after washing clothes and use gloves as well.

  • Cleaning process

If possible to soak clothes in detergent for some time before washing. You can also use wet wash with detergent.
