Being happy in your own company is important but a lot of people feel uncomfortable when they have to be by themselves. Of course, it can be hard if you don’t have the habit of doing things independently but you sure can learn. If you too are struggling with it, here are some tips and ways to be happy alone that will come in handy.
- Do not compare yourself with others as it does not matter what others are doing, you do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
- Take some time off your social network and you will realise how many opinions are formed just because other people think so too. This will help you see situations from a different perspective as an individual.
- Spend some time away from the phone. Do anything without updating your friends or sharing what you are up to. You can start by doing this once or twice a week.
- Find time to do things you love, even if you don’t have someone to accompany you. For example, if you love exercising, don’t wait for a friend to join you before you begin.
- Have meals alone. This is absolutely normal and no, it won’t look awkward. Try visiting your favourite cafe alone once and see how you feel afterwards.
- Take a stroll around your neighbourhood to clear your mind. It is great to talk things out but spending some time with your thoughts will give you clarity.
- Take the initiative to absorb and learn new information or practice a skill while alone.
- Practise gratitude when alone.
Take it slow and you will gradually feel comfortable with spending time alone.
