Why You Should Not Workout 7 Days a Week

We all know that exercise and movement are important but some people do not realise that rest is equally essential. You may want to shed off extra kilos or achieve your dream body in a few months but exercising each day is not the way to go about it.

Overdoing it can be detrimental to your health and can even be a cause of injuries.  We tell you why you should not work out daily and take a break at least once a week.

  • Exercising daily can cause muscle cramping if you are going for intense routines. You may even feel that you are not close to achieving your fitness goals.
  • You may feel burned out and could lose motivation to exercise entirely.
  • A lot of muscle building happens outside of the gym. Not giving your body time to recover from workouts can be counterproductive.
  • You may always feel tired and it could affect your daily tasks or job.
  • You may observe a weight loss plateau in spite of doing everything right.

These reasons are why you should not opt for a seven-day-a-week workout routine. Apart from that, you do not have to work out every day to achieve your fitness goals. Consult with a fitness expert to get a customized workout routine that is aligned with your  health concerns.

But  if you still wish to do you can opt for Low-intensity steady-state cardio (LISS), a workout that can be done on your rest days. It may include walking or cycling or jogging for, say, half an hour, at a fairly slow, but steady speed.
