We often talk about how good and relaxing sex feels, but we rarely discuss the after-sex cramps. Well, you are not alone as many women experience cramping after sex and for most women it may feel similar to menstrual cramps. There can be numerous reasons behind these cramps, so before you find the treatment you must know the cause. Check out the list of causes behind post-sex cramps:
- Orgasm
Yes, an orgasm can also cause cramps. This process involves the contraction of the muscles in the pelvis and pelvic floor. If these muscles continue to contract intensely, they may cause temporary cramps after sex.
- Ovarian cyst
One reason might be that you are having ovarian cysts( fluid-filled structures on your ovaries). Sometimes these cysts can trigger pain in the lower side of the pelvis and they can cause cramps after sex.
- UTI
If you are suffering from a bladder or urinary problem they can cause pain after sex. The bladder is right in front of the uterus, and intercourse might hurt it. One in five women experiences a urinary tract infection at some point in life.
- Sexually transmitted infections
STIs like chlamydia and gonorrhea may cause pain during and after sex. You can identify STIs by looking at the symptoms including odor, vaginal discharge, and itching. Some of these infections do not cause any symptoms, so it is best to get tested regularly.
- Rough sex
It might be possible that while having intercourse, you get so excited that you end up in a position that puts extra pressure on your private part. This can make you feel sore around that area after the intercourse.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is the growth of tissue similar to that which grows in the uterus in places outside of the uterus. It can cause severe cramping and abdominal pain both during and after sex.
Try to find out the cause first and then look for the treatment.
