Detox Diets: Do They Work?

People instantly regret having junk food and even something processed during their dieting period as it isn’t always possible to stick to healthy eating habits. In such times people rely on detox diets to cleanse their digestive system after they’ve had larger meals than usual as they  believe that it helps in removing toxins from the body and undo the effects of junk food. But how true is this? Let’s find out.

What is a detox diet?

A detox diet is short for detoxification, a process in which the toxins get removed from the body. These diets promote the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and liquids, which support detoxification and removal of unwanted substances in the body.

Toxins are substances that can harm your body and are usually removed by your kidney and liver(these organs naturally perform the process of detoxification). While people do say that they feel more energetic after a detox routine but there is no scientific evidence that detox diets help with that.

Detox diet and fat loss

Many people confuse water weight with fat and think that detox diets can help them shed kilos quickly. While following a detox diet, you may end up losing water weight, but that doesn’t mean you have lost fat. It is not a quick way to lose weight if your main goal is fat loss. These diets may also not work for many people, so it is essential to know your body well.

The human body is capable of detoxification on its own, so it is not absolutely necessary to go for a detox diet after you have had a few unplanned meals or your favorite snacks. You can get back on track from your next meal and continue to be consistent. To make your diet more nutritious, make sure you add more fruits and vegetables if you want the benefits of a detox diet.
