Many people have weight-loss goals and portion control is a good way to do so as it helps in controlling caloric intake and also helps in monitoring consumption of carbs, protein and fat in an appropriate amount.

 

Now, cutting a few calories out of your diet can be a little tricky as your body takes some time to get used to it but till then, you might feel a little hungry and wonder if you are eating too little.

So we tell you how you can control your meal portions without feeling hungry, here are some tips that will help you out.

  • If you are not planning to have a heavy meal, include a few but nutritious snacks in between. This will satiate your hunger and you will be able to enjoy your meal.
  • Understand your caloric needs. Don’t assume what portions are appropriate for you, understand how many calories you need per day to stay healthy and based on that, decide your portions
  • Find a way to utilise leftovers. You may not want to waste food and hence, end up overeating. You can store your leftovers and make sandwiches or wraps out of them.
  • Make fruit desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth. This way, you get to enjoy your desserts and keep your calorie count in check.
  • Cook your meals yourself. It is recommended for people who can actually manage to do it. This will give you the right idea of what is on your plate.
  • Cook food that is sufficient for one meal.  This will help you control portions and also avoid food wastage.
  • Take advice from a dietician before starting with portion control to know the right portion for you.
  • Don’t cut on carbs completely and consume them as per your control.

Apart from this, get most of your calories from protein as it keeps you full for longer and eat more fruits and vegetables as the fiber in them helps control hunger.
